Children globally will be gearing up for World Book Day on Thursday (March 7), all excited to dress up as their favourite character to celebrate the beloved event. An international celebration of books and reading by UNESCO, World Book Day is earmarked annually by more than 100 countries - and gives people the opportunity to dust off and dive into their favourite stories.

Many schools will hold dress-down days this Thursday, allowing pupils to reimagine themselves as their favourite characters for the day - so expect to see plenty of Hungry Caterpillars, Horrid Henrys, Fantastic Mr Foxes, Lions, Witches and even Wardrobes when you make the school run.

And while many parents and children will have their outfits selected and pressed for the event, other last minute lookers may be strapped for inspiration.
