Overview

We purchased this car from a friend in 2020 with around 159,000 miles. It served as the main development platform for our short shifter and transmission detent spring development. The carfax shows 5 owners (including us) however the last two owners were father & son. Our friend purchased the car in 2011 and drove the car for 8 years until he moved to Japan. Before he moved overseas, he (owner 3) sold the car to his father (owner 4) who then cared for it for a year or so before then deciding to sell it. He then contacted us and we purchased the car before it was ever offered to the public.

The car was purchased new in Baton Rouge, LA and has lived here since then.

The second owner installed a factory S2000 CR front lip and had them painted. The car wears the original VIN front bumper, but it does appear to have been painted before.

The third owner installed a JDP rear spoiler and TIEN coilovers which we replaced with Fortune Autos. The spoiler remains on the car.

Exterior wear & tear

The paint has a bunch of stone chips on the front cap. This is just due to the age and mileage. The car has never been painted so it does show signs of wear. The front lower portion of the CR lip is slightly misshapen. This is likely due to the height of the car and maybe someone bumped a curb. It's not busted but you can see in the light it has a wave. There are 3-4 small dents/waves in the body (pictured below). There are no dents with paint chips so these could probably be pulled out. The driver door edge paint has chips along with a few scuffs on the bumpers. The headlights are faded and hazed. Part of the rear trunk area has paint beginning to fade. It's on a small plastic piece, not the actual trunk.

Hard / Soft Top

The soft top is original, therfore is does have tears and repairs. One of the small repairs has ripped opening the seam again. It doesn't really leak that bad but the car lives with the hardtop on it. If you want to use the softtop, I'd suggest replacing it. The mechanical parts of the tops work fine, including the rear defroster and latches. Around 80mph the top seal whistles. I'm sure with some adjustments and conditioning the rubber would come back to life.

Interior wear & tear

The driver seat has wear and a few rips. It's not horrible, but it is the worst part of the interior. The steering wheel is worn from use. The driver floot mat is worn. The center console lid does not retract and is held open. There are two small screw marks on the center console. The inside of the hardtop has a small mark that likely came from it being stored off the car. The car had a rear sub installed in the trunk. We removed it when we bought the car but the wires are still tucked inside of the spare tire. The driver seatbelt is frayed due to use.

Mechanical

Cruise control does not work. I'm not sure why, but it hasn't worked since we owned the car. The front case did have a sensor oil leak but it was replaced. There is still oil residue near the oil filter. The car uses track brake pads so they don't feel great on the street, they squeal and dust like crazy. The rotors have also been worn down pretty good. I would consider replacing the rotors and pads if you are going to street drive this car. When the car is cold, the starter motor drags a bit and you'll hear it grind. It has done this since we have owned the car but didn't think it was that big of a deal because when it is warm it doesn't do it.

Wheels / Tires

This car has been tracked by us. It had a new set of Khumo V730s installed around 161k miles. They have plently of tread left and work great on the track. The wheels seem to have been refinished before so they aren't perfect. Some are also stained from the brake pad dust.

Overall this is a great, honest car. It is a great car to drive and enjoy. The engine doesn't smoke, make weird noises or have any issues. It idles smooth, revs quick and offers all the S2000 noises. It does shake, rattle and squeek just like every other S2000. It drives straight and is a great cruiser. The AC and heat system works great.

Other notes

This car has been tracked. During our product development process, it went to the track about 4-5 times. Each time the car was properly maintained. It was aligned, fluid changed and kept up. It never skipped a beat and has been dead reliable. I suspect a full tune up would be great for this car, but it has never had any issues for us. It has never had aftermarket wheels or any serious modifications. The car runs the factory exhaust manifold, exhaust and cat. I did remove the header heat shield during the clutch change job and just never put it back on.
