Checked baggage allowance: IB long-haul as BA award
I used my BA Avios to get MAD-BOG in J. To my surprise, the receipt said that the checked baggage allowance is just one bag at 23 kg. Would anyone know if this is correct? Does this mean that IB awards booked through BA are the equivalent of "Optima" fares with the lowest allowance?
And have I understood correctly that my BA Silver card will get me one extra bag in any case?

It doesn't really matter whether your award ticket gets you 1 or 2 pieces of checked luggage - because Oneworld Sapphires only get one extra piece when the fare comes with either 0 or 1 checked bags. In other words, you get 2 and only 2 either way...

The bags are also up to 32 kg, not 23 kg. This is always confusing because IB, instead of saying that your allowance is 32 kg, says that the allowance is 23 kg but that the overweight fee is waived.

IIRC the extra weight allowance only applies to Oneworld Emeralds (BA or AA only) or Iberia Plus elites.

If really booked into Optima, then it's 1x 32kg, then OWS (IB+ or not) +1 x 23kg
Had it been all other J sub classes, then it's 2x 32kg, then OWS (IB+ nort) + 0 pieces.
Had OP been OWE (IB BA AA) then Optima J = 1x32 + 2x23
OWE IBBAAA + other J subclasses = 2x32 + 2x23...

Yes, I meant that the basic baggage allowance in Business Plus with no status is for 32 kg bags (1 or 2, depending on fare class).

I suppose that's technically true for an OWS, although I would be surprised if they really enforce the 23 kg limit for the extra bag. Notice, however, that IB's own elites (even Rubies) do get free overweight baggage always.

I read "The free excess weight of up to 32 kg per bag does not apply to any extra bags added" is to be applied to all status given bags (OWE to IBR).
Not related to OP but (4) on IBR says Iberia flights only, not IB Group, so not for IBX & Air Nostrum?

What the Spanish version says is "El sobrepeso de hasta los 32kg por maleta no se aplicará en los equipajes adicionales que se contraten". This means that the free excess weight will not apply to any extra bags that you buy.
I can confirm from considerable experience (having moved internationally several times) that you do get it for the extra bags granted by your IB+ status.

The Spanish version says Iberia Group. Again, I can confirm from experience that it does work.

is still correct due to (3), but

funny IB isn't as punitive as BA in not giving any elite bags to HBO fares...
